1. What we aim for
The target is WCAG 2.2 Level AA across the whole app and every public page a client of yours opens from a link: quotes, progress claims and invoices. Your customers never made an account with us, so those pages carry the same standard as the app itself.
In practice that means: everything works from a keyboard and with a screen reader, text can be made bigger without breaking the page, nothing depends on telling one colour from another, and nothing moves if you have asked your device to keep still.
2. What is built today
- Text size and high contrast: in the app, open Settings, then Display. Three text sizes and a high-contrast switch, applied the moment you tap them and remembered on that device. They take effect before a page paints, so there is no flash of small text.
- Reduced motion is respected: if your phone or computer has “reduce motion” on, the launch screen, the page transitions and every other animation in Sumitt stay still.
- Keyboard and screen readers: every control has a real label, forms use real fields, there is a skip link to the main content on every app screen, and the focus outline is one you can see.
- 44 pixel tap targets: buttons and the controls a finger has to find are at least 44 pixels each way, the Apple’s own guidance and well above WCAG’s 24 pixel minimum. That is a work-glove rule as much as an accessibility one.
- Colour is never the only signal: the margin gauge on every quote carries a word beside its colour, so “below your floor” reads as words, not as a shade. Status chips and warnings carry their text too.
3. Known gaps we are working on
- The iOS app cannot pinch-zoom. Zoom is locked in the app shell so a stray pinch cannot leave the screen stuck half-zoomed. Use the text size setting instead: it makes everything bigger and keeps the layout intact. The website in a normal browser still zooms as usual.
- Some PDFs are not tagged. The PDF copy of a quote or invoice may not read well in a screen reader yet. The web page of the same document, the link your client receives, is the accessible version and always carries the same content.
- Voice features are new. Talking to the Foreman and dictating a variation arrived recently and are not yet as polished as typing. Everything they do can also be done from the keyboard.
4. How to tell us
If something in Sumitt is in your way, email support@sumitt.com.au and say which screen, which device, and what happened. A person reads it and answers within two business days, and a fix for a blocking problem goes to the front of the queue.
